Calculating air conditioner capacity
The most approximate estimate of the required cooling capacity of an air conditioner is approximately 1 kW per 10 m2. This basic figure is refined taking into account the characteristics of the room. Add 100 W for each person, 200-300 W for each computer. If heating equipment (electric stove, for instance) is working in the room, add its power as well.
More accurately, the necessary power of an air conditioner can be calculated only by calculating the additional heat inflows, heat losses and air exchange. Exactly this will be done by the manager by phone when you call the company which is dealing with sale and installation of Toshiba air conditioners. The specialist will be able not only to calculate the cooling capacity, but also to choose the type of air conditioner, its main functions and the scheme of installation.
Toshiba Air conditioner type
The wall-mounted split-system is the most popular type of air conditioner for the apartment and office. Low noise level, compact size of the inside unit, a great variety of functions. Exactly in wall conditioners the most advanced air filters, systems of the air stream control, and air ionizers are installed. Wall split-systems are intended for premises with an area of 15-90 m2.
Wall-mounted split-system is the most common variant of air conditioning in apartments or offices. The maximum of useful functions, qualitative air-cleaning, low noise level – these are the advantages of wall-mounted conditioners.
First in the world household split-system created by Toshiba in 1961! Toshiba offers not only premium-class conditioners, but also inexpensive reliable split-systems without inverter. They are designed for economical air conditioning of rooms from 16 to 70 square meters.
Multi-split-system consists of 2-5 indoor units, connected to one outdoor unit. Most often multi split contains two wall-mounted indoor units and one outdoor unit. One multi split-system can condition a whole apartment, house or office with several rooms. It is the best solution when there is not enough space or it is forbidden to place blocks on the facade of the building. Inverter multi split-systems Toshiba can contain not only wall-mounted, but also other types of indoor units.
If you do not own a room, but rent an apartment or go to the summer cottage, buy a mobile air conditioner, which does not require installation. Window air conditioner is the cheapest and simplest type of air conditioner. It is reliable, and its installation is simple and does not require highly qualified installers. However, mobile and window air conditioners are noisy and equipped with a minimal set of additional functions.
Multi-split systems are a kind of split system. The difference is that to one external unit is connected not one, but several (from 2 to 5) internal blocks of the same or different power and different types. This design of air conditioning system allows to save space on the wall of the building and not to spoil the view by external units.
Toshiba produces inverter multi-split-systems for two, three, four and even five rooms. Typically, multi split systems include only wall mounted units, but Toshiba also allows connection of duct, cassette and console units.
Now let’s move on to more complex, expensive and powerful semi-industrial conditioners. Semi-industrial air conditioners occupy an intermediate position between domestic and industrial systems. They are suitable for cottages, big offices, trade and industrial premises with an area up to 500 square meters and even more.
Toshiba semi-industrial (Light Commercial) air conditioners for comfort conditioning of large rooms (50-200 m²)
Inverter control and twin rotary compressors bring the advantages of Digital Inverter and Super Digital Inverter air conditioners:
- Economical
- Power consumption reduced by 40-50%
- Reliability
- Long service life, low compressor wear
- Comfort
- Low noise, precise temperature control, easy operation.
If you need the conditioner not to be seen in the interior – choose a duct or a cassette conditioner.
Toshiba Ducted conditioner is installed behind a false ceiling, which fully hides the inside unit. Cooled air is supplied by the system of thermo-insulated air ducts, which are also located in the inter-ceiling space. The duct conditioner can cool several rooms at the same time. Ducted split-system can also supply fresh air, solving the problem of both ventilation and air conditioning of the whole office, apartment or cottage. The capacity of Toshiba ducted air conditioners is from 2 to 16 kW.
The ducted indoor units are installed behind a suspended ceiling. The air is distributed through a duct system. Thanks to this design, Toshiba ducted air conditioners are inconspicuous and can cool several rooms at the same time.
The external static pressure of Digital Inverter and Super Digital Inverter ducted units is up to 100 Pa and the energy efficiency ratio (EER) reaches 4.48.
Toshiba ducted air conditioners are manufactured in Japan and Thailand.
The cassette conditioner is located behind the false ceiling, and only decorative grids in the cells of the suspended ceiling are visible in the room. The cassette type air conditioner evenly distributes air in 2 or 4 directions, which allows using just one cassette type air conditioner to cool a large room.
Cassette indoor units are designed for installation in a suspended ceiling. They are inconspicuous and do not take up room space.
Toshiba Super Digital Inverter cassette air conditioners have maximum energy efficiency (up to 4.79) and low noise levels (from 27 dBA). Toshiba cassette air conditioners are manufactured in Japan and Thailand. It is possible to connect 2, 3 or 4 cassette type indoor units to one Digital Inverter outdoor unit.
Floor-ceiling, or console conditioner is mounted to the ceiling, and some models can be installed vertically on the floor near the wall. Such conditioner can be successfully applied for cooling of the rooms of complicated shape without a false ceiling. Toshiba ceiling mounted air conditioners are designed for rooms with an area of 20 – 00 m2.
Floor-ceiling indoor units of semi-industrial air conditioners can be installed in any of two positions – on the floor near the wall or under the ceiling. In this case, no modification of the air conditioner is required.
The floor-ceiling units of the semi-industrial Digital Inverter series clean the air efficiently and distribute the cooled or heated air throughout the room optimally.
Functions of an air conditioner
The main function of an air conditioner is to cool the air. However, almost all air conditioners are capable of performing other tasks as well:
Heating. Many models of air conditioners can heat the room. To do this, they are equipped with a reversible compressor, which when running “in reverse” causes the air conditioner to heat the room. Conditioner with a heat pump is a bit more expensive than a conditioner, which is operating only for cooling, but it is very economical, as it uses only 1kW of power for 3-4kW of heating. For example, Toshiba SKHP is a wall-side split-system with a heat pump, and Toshiba SKP is the same, but without heating function.
Important! Household air conditioners with a heat pump can not heat the room in severe frost. Minimal temperature at which it is possible to switch on the semi-industrial conditioners and some series of wall-split-systems (for example Toshiba Daiseikai SKVP-ND) is minus 15 degrees.
Air purification. Almost all air-conditioners have air filters installed. The main filter, which cleans the air from the coarse dust (coarse filter) is just a fine mesh. Additional filters (fine filters) purify air from the fine dust, smoke, pollen of plants, smells and are installed usually in wall split-systems. For example, Toshiba Daiseikai air conditioners are equipped with a plasma filter with silver ions, which will quickly clean the room from dust, bacteria and viruses, as well as deodorize the air.
